BRAIDWOMAN™

PRESENTED BY JOGOESWEST sTUDIOS

BRAIDWOMAN™ is a new film series by Contemporary Sculptor, Joanne Petit-Frère and her studio moniker, JoGoesWest. The series holds timed portals into Joanne’s immersive studio process, while unveiling Joanne’s long-awaited new sculptures from baked-in series, Braided Sanctuaries & BraidCora™. The series as materially cored by braided-hair, sonic architecture and literary accents - are rooted in diasporic memory, informed by the cultural legacies of the Taíno and Arawak peoples of Ayiti and West Africa. The work is further shaped by the First Nations lands of Oklahoma, where Joanne’s studio practice continues to unfold.

Supported by Arts Unlimited, Adelaide Fringe, Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition & The Foundation of Contemporary Arts.

This work is also presented in acknowledgement of the Kaurna people, Traditional Custodians of the Adelaide Plains where the series internationally premiered & activated on March 3, 2026 in Australia. This presentation also honors Elders past and present while recognizing the enduring sovereignty of this land.
